What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a degenerative joint disease, which means the symptoms that your pet experiences will worsen over time. As your pet gets older the cartilage between their joints wears down, causing the bones to rub against each other. This type of arthritis is known as osteoarthritis. Sometimes your pet may develop the disease as a result of injuries, infections or inflammatory diseases.

What are signs my pet may have arthritis?

Some signs you should look for are:

1. Gaining weight
2. Avoiding activities like running or playing
3. Excess tiredness or fatigue
4. Swollen or stiff joints
5. Limping or difficulty moving around
6. Irritability or aggression towards humans and other pets

How is arthritis treated in pets?

To treat arthritis our team will assess your pet to diagnose them. We perform a physical exam and X-rays to examine their bones. Based on the stage of your pet’s arthritis we’ll create a treatment plan to reduce inflammation and manage their pain. Their treatment may include therapies, pain medication or supplements.
