Cardiology

Focusing on the diagnosis and management of heart disease in cats and dogs.

Your pet’s heart is a vital organ that needs to stay healthy for their survival. Similarly to your own heart, theirs is responsible for pumping blood throughout their body. Our clinic has expertise to diagnose heart issues and create plans to manage any diseases.

What are symptoms of heart disease in pets?

Common signs to look out for are:

  1. Rapid weight loss
  2. Laboured breathing
  3. Persistent coughing
  4. Decreased energy
  5. Fainting

These symptoms can also stem from other health issues so we encourage you to contact us as soon as you notice them. Schedule an appointment at 905-707-9059.

What causes cardiac issues in pets?

There are many reasons why your pet may develop heart problems. Some are born with heart defects, which may have been due to genetics. Older pets are at risk of developing heart problems, too. Overweight pets also have a higher risk of developing cardiac problems. With routine checkups (twice a year) we can detect heart problems in the early stages.

How are cardiac problems in pets treated?

To determine the best course of treatment we consider the severity of your pet’s case, along with their age and lifestyle. We may treat heart disease with surgery, diet/lifestyle changes and medication. If your pet has developed heart problems due to heartworms we’ll offer medication to rid them of worms.
