What parasites does my pet need protection from?

Common parasites your pet needs protection from are: fleas, ticks, ringworms and mange mites. These critters attack from the outside and are classified as external parasites. Internal parasites are particularly dangerous as most of them are zoonotic, meaning they can spread to humans. Some zoonotic parasites are roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms. Another parasite your pet needs protection from are heartworms and coccidia. Having your pet on prevention medication is the only way to protect your loyal companion and the rest of your family from these harmful creatures.

My pet has been losing weight rapidly. Is this a sign of a parasite infection?

Yes, sudden weight loss is a sign your pet may have parasites. Even if the weight loss is not from an infection, you should still have a veterinarian determine the cause and rule out any other illness. Other signs that indicate parasites in your furry companion are:

Do indoor pets need parasite prevention?

Yes! Even though they stay indoors, there is no guarantee they can’t get parasites from other animals they interact with. Sometimes, parasites can enter the home on human clothing or shoes. Some parasites can also hide away inside the home during the winter months, reproduce and infect your pet while indoors.
